The Dubai World cup is a social and a sporting extravegance, where the international racing community and fasionistas collide making it the 'event of the year'.

The racing apart, the Dubai World Cup is now a marquee event for fashionistas, with off-track prizes competed for with as much enthusiasmand style as the horses running for glory at Meydan.

Dubai's style-conscious race-goers compete in different style segments – from the best dressed to the most fabulous fascinator, or hat.

This year the Jaguar Style Stakes added two new categories - most creative hat and most elegant lady.

Among the prizes was a 2012 Jaguar XK convertible.

The most creative hat award was won by Mika Lomabard whose hat was designed like a horse.

Mika did face a tough competition from Yasmin Habush who had Burj Khalifa on her head!

Nicola Gibson, Jaguar Mena Marketing Manager, said: "The main thing we look for is poise, elegance, sophistication; someone who can carry the outfit they are actually wearing. The outfit should reflect their actual personality."

The men were not far behind giving tough competition to one another. A richly-mustachioed (with a Pirates of the Caribbean touch) gent won the Best Dressed Man.

The incredible atmosphere at the Meydan was a kaleidoscope of colour brusting the drakness of the night. The combination of the Arab gentlemen dressed crisply in their white outfit and their head-dresses next to the best of European dresses and best of American style; it brought everything together like a cosmopolitan melting point.

Not only did the Meydan complex hosted the $10 million horse races but showcased magnificent ceremony, concert and fireworks.

The biggest day of the racing calendar is also 'the day' on a Dubai socialite's diary.
