Filipino movie actor Mark Gil passes away at 52

Filipino movie actor Raphael Joseph De Mesa Eigenmann better known as Mark Gil has died reportedly after a battle with liver cirrhosis.

He was 52, and would have celebrated his 53rd birthday on September 25.

Gil's passing was reported on dzBB radio on Monday.

Pep.ph cited a statement from Gil's camp confirming his death at 8 a.m.

"As of now, the family is in deep grieving and they want private time with him. They will issue an official statement within the day," it quoted the statement as saying.

Till Monday noon the family is yet to issue a statement.

Gabby Eigenmann's manager Perry Lansigan also confirmed Mark Gil's death in a Facebook message to Rappler.

Perry said that the family is asking for privacy to mourn the actor's death as of this time.

Gil is the son of veteran actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil. His siblings include actors Michael de Mesa and Cherie Gil.

He is survived by his 5 children - actors Gabby Eigenmann, Timmy Eigenmann (Sid Lucero), Andi Eigenmann, Maxine Eigenmann and Ira Eigenmann.

A prominent actor in the industry, Mark rose to fame in the movie Batch 81 directed by Mike de Leon, where he played a neophyte initiated in a fraternity.

He was recently seen in the ABS-CBN drama The Legal Wife starring Angel Locsin.

Following the news of actor Mark Gil’s death, colleagues in showbiz expressed their sadness over his passing on social media.
