Brit Pop: Spears goes manga for Pop (SUPPLIED)
Now that Lady Gaga officially has more fans than Britney Spears, the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” singer is looking to collaborate with the “Pokerface” star.
Or so it seems, going by Spears’s latest comment in an interview to the UK’s Pop magazine. "I'm a big fan of hers," she said when asked about working with Gaga. "Anything's possible!"
As we’ve seen with Gaga’s mega-hit “Telephone” video, she likes her collaborations, so should we expect a duet to surface on her much talked-about new album, which drops next year? Spears is also hard at work on her new album, a follow-up to 2008's "Circus", so a duet could benefit sales for both.
Spears, meanwhile, showed her versatility for Pop, channelling her inner manga character on an anime-inspired cover for Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, described as Japan’s Andy Warhol.
In a white wedding veil and blue leotard with red backpack, she could almost pass for the sort of young schoolgirl that is a central theme of much Japanese popular culture. "I loved working with Takashi," she said. "I especially liked how he took high-end fashion and incorporated it with Japanese manga."
The singer's tour to Japan was what originally piqued her interest in Japanese culture. Spears couldn't wait to share her excitement for her photo shoot with fans, saying on Twitter: "I just saw the photos for the first time and they are beautiful. Comes out Sept. 1st. Thanks @TakashiPom -- Britney."
Now that she’s finished filming her “Glee” cameo, we expect we’ll hear a lot more from the one-time pop wreck.
