Govinda’s still crazy about Priyanka Chopra

“At the moment she is a star and she is doing very well and may God bless her,” says Govinda about his Deewana Main Deewana co star Priyanka Chopra.

“If someone starts doing well in films, his or her career is always on the upsurge,” he talks about Piggy Chops who worked with him a decade ago when they shot the film together. Priyanka was a newcomer then, but then Govinda says that he clearly understood the actress’ abilities at that time itself and knew she was very talented.

“When KC Bokadia was casting for Deewana Main Deewana eleven years ago, and asked me about what I felt about Priyanka Chopra, I said it was a good idea because I felt that she had the potential to be a top star. And see today she is a star and she is doing very well and may god bless her. Guess, this will be good for everyone now,” says Govinda who is not doing as well as he was when the film was being shot. She was a newcomer then and he was the flavour of the season. His films were doing very well and he was being touted as the man who could take Amitabh Bachchan’s job. Sadly that wasn’t to be.

Govinda was strangely absent at the music release of Bokaidia’s DMD. Ask him and he says that he wasn’t in town.

“I was out of town for a religious purpose and I could not make it. They wanted to keep the event at the same time and that was negotiable. I couldn’t cancel my event and they couldn’t cancel theirs,” says Govinda who plays a character with grey shades in the film much unlike his usual comic characters. 

But then Govinda had some reservations about his role and only agreed when he had a certain clarity about the script of the movie.

“The role has negativity but it doesn’t have negativity at the same time. People who love someone with all their heart have no negativity in them. Their minds are clear and nice. The girl also realises that there was nothing wrong in the guy and he did not do any mistake deliberately. Then she forgives him. I gave my consent to do the film only then,” says the actor.

The film is set for release in the month of February and we need to see if the audience is still deewana for this former Entertainer No 1.
