After a number of not-so successful movies, Malayalam superstar Mammootty is back with a mega performance.

As Pallickal Narayanan, he essays an average first-generation Keralite expatriate in the UAE, in the movie ‘Pathemari’ (small boat).

Narayanan, arrives in Khorfakkan about 50 years ago in a small boat and works to support his large family back home until his death. Not only did he not enjoy his life but the very same family he cared for refuses to accept his body home.

Narayanan and his close friend Moid (Sreenivasan) make many trips to their homeland during the five decades with suitcases full of perfumes, dry fruits and other gifts for every family member. This plot resonates with Keralite expatriates.

Speaking to ‘Emirates 24|7’, Salim Ahmed, a travel consultant turned film producer, writer and director, said his fourth movie, ‘Pathemari’ is running to full houses in 67 theatres across Kerala.

Jewel Mary, plays the role of Nalini, Narayanan’s wife. Joy Mathew, KPK Vengara, Albeert Alex, and others too play important roles.

“I was looking for UAE-based producers for this big budget movie, but many established film financers were sceptical and wanted quick returns. My friends Sudheesh and Advocate Hashik finally helped me,” Ahmed said.

“We expect the movie to release in the UAE and Gulf countries within a week,” he added.
