'Glee' star Cory Monteith found dead in a hotel room in Canada

‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith has been found dead in a hotel in Vancouver, Canada, confirmed officials earlier through a telecast press conference.

The 31-year-old was found dead on the 21st floor of The Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, with his cause of death still being investigated, stated a Vancouver Police spokesperson.

Foul play has been ruled out by the coroner, with the department spokesperson adding: “All hotel videos and room access records have been gathered. We are investigating the cause of death.”

The Canadian national checked into the hotel on July 6 and was discovered at noon Canadian time when he was late for checkout.

The initial findings on Monteith’s autopsy will be ready in “one-two days” said the coroner’s office.

Meanwhile, with no cause of death yet determined, the actor’s past medical records will be examined and a drug overdose is being investigated.

The actor checking into rehab earlier, with his rep telling ‘People’ magazine that he had “voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction.”

The actor also received treatment when he was 19 for addiction.

Monteith, who starred as Finn Hudson on the hugely popular ‘Glee’ on Fox, dated co-star, Lea Michele.

The actress was not with him at the time.

The actor’s last tweet was on July 13, where he simply said: “Oh, it’s a shark tornado.”

Fans devastated

Fans of the ‘Glee’ actor, who call themselves ‘Gleeks’, swung between ‘shock’ and ‘disbelief’ when news broke of the 31-year-old’s untimely and sudden death.

Lisa Meskimen tweeted: “Oh my, I can’t believe it. Cory Monteith is dead. I’m in shock.”

Sandi Shader said: “I just heard! RIP Cory Monteith This is such horrible news.”

Robert wrote: “I’m not okay; crying my heart out it’s confirmed Cory Monteith passed away today. He was amazing on ‘Glee’.”

James B wrote: “I watched pretty much every interview of Cory Monteith that the internet had to offer. I’m so sad.”

Connor Franta said: “It’s always sad to see the good die young, especially those as talented as Cory Monteith. My thoughts and prayers.”


The rise of a star

The actor, musician and singer began his innings in the big leagues from Vancouver, British Columbia, which, in a sad twist, also became the city he would forever sleep in.

Monteith bagged minor roles in films such as ‘Whisper’ and ‘Final Destination 3’, before he moved to the small screen with the TV show ‘Kyle XY’.

His flirting fame continued for a few years until finally in 2009 he was cast as Finn Hudson in the show that would shoot him to super stardom.

Monteith’s role as Finn bagged him the 16th Screen Actors Guild Awards for this debut year for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2009, followed by the 2011 Teen Choice Awards for Choice TV: Actor Comedy.
