Indian band to play at Global Village tonight

The India Pavilion at the Global Village in Dubai will witness non-stop entertainment for 140 days.

An upcoming Indian music band, Thykudam Bridge, will be performing live at the Global Village on tonight with their latest hit songs from their debut album, Navarasam. The live performance by the music band from Kerala, is one of the several non-stop cultural and entertainment shows to attract more visitors to the Global Village and the expanded Indian Pavilion.

Speaking to Emirates 24!7, Govind Menon of Thycudam Bridge said they are excited to be performing at the Global Village for the first time in five languages –Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, English and Tamil. The Indian music band that originated from Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala has an international audience now after many stage performances in the UAE and other GCC countries, Singapore, the UK and Australia.

“Thykudam Bridge will be launching their new album, Navarasam (Nine Emotions) for the international audience in Dubai and the video of our hit track, Aarachar (Hangman)  at the Indian Pavilion stage at 7.30 PM on Friday. The live performance for three hours in the Global Village Main Cultural Stage from 9 pm to 11 pm,” said Sree Kumar, Managing Director, MAC Events.

Thaikkudam Bridge performs in various genres from Rock and Reggae to Hindustani, Carnatic and more. The band which came to existence only in 2013 rose to stardom due to their huge fan following through social networking sites and YouTube channels, as well as performances in various places. The band members have now started starring in movies and directing music for Malayalam films too.

“We had many performances in Dubai and during two hours, we will be singing all the nine songs from the Album, Navarasanm. The album was released in kerala and we are launching here for the international audience We are 16 members in the band, who are always part of the team from the beginning,” said Menon, who started his musical journey from a small rented room near Thykkudam bridge, near Vytilla, Kochi.

The band founded by cousins Govind Menon and Siddharth Menon, came to lime light after they got a chance perform on the musical show ‘Music Mojo’, telecast on a leading Malayalam channel. The cousins decided to bring together artist friends from Kerala and Mumbai to perform with them. Soon, the members and fame kept growing and the name is adopted from a bridge near their small room from where they started the band. Each of the band members jammed together in a small room near Thykudam bridge and started jamming. Their song, Fish Rock grew in prominence through social media. Peethambaran Menon, a vocalist and Govind’s father, is the eldest, while drummer Abin Thej is the youngest member of the 16 member band. They experiment with melodious tunes in Malayalam, Hindi, English and Tami, and give it their special touch.

The band was formed near Thaikkudam Bridge, a famous hangout joint in Cochin, Kerala. Each of the members got together in a jam packed room near the bridge, and started jamming, thus, kickstarting their amazing journey. Their most unique composition, ‘Fish Rock’, grew in popularity through social media networking sites and YouTube, and soon became the biggest rage all over India. After putting together amazing shows on TV as well as live performances, and composing their own tracks such as ‘Shiva’, Thaikkudam Bridge recently launched their debut album "Navarasam".

Every day there are live cultural and entertainment shows at the India pavilion from 6 pm to 10 pm, Dance India Dance competitions in Cinematic Dance and classical fusion dance, India Band Fest, and performances by Indian artists. There are also celebrations for the Christmas and New Year.
