We all have known him as the director who gave us films like ‘Mr India’, ‘Bandit Queen’, ‘Masoom’ and the internationally acclaimed ‘Elizabeth’.

Very few of his fans might know the fact that this acclaied director faced the camera before he went behind it. Shekhar Kapur began his Bollywood career as an actor. Now after a long gap spent directing other actors, he’s back in front of the camera.

Shekhar has concluded shooting for ‘Viswaroopam’, a film scripted and directed by actor Kamal Hassan.

Shekhar plays Kamal Hassan’s uncle in the thriller that has already garnered a screening slot at the Cannes film festival, if reports are to be believed.

We caught up with Shekhar for a quick word before he slipped into the conference room on the concluding day of Frames 2012, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s media and entertainment convention. “I have just finished a hectic schedule of shooting for ‘Viswaroopam’. Working with  Kamal Hassan  was a great experience. The screenplay, dialogues and lyrics written by Kamal Haasan are preciously meaningful in combination with an intriguing tale,” he claimed.

‘Viswaroopam’ is set in Afghanistan and deals with the subject of Taliban in the region. Actor Rahul Bose will be playing the lead negative role in the movie.

The film also stars theatre artiste Pooja Kumar and Isha Sharvani.
