‘Bombay Velvet’ is based on historian Gyan Prakash's book titled, ‘Mumbai Fables’.

Besides Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, the film also stars Karan Johar, Raveena Tandon and Kay Kay Menon in pivotal roles.

Apart from the budget issues, re-shooting issues now we hear that apparently the film was of 4 hours and 28 minutes. After editing a couple of times it was brought down to 3 hours and 20 minutes. But still the film is lengthy and while editing more apparently two songs of Anushka Sharma had to be removed.

Also there have been rumours that Raveena Tandon's role has been majorly edited. She plays the role of a jazz singer and had a song in the film. According to a source, Raveena was very upset with Anurag.

She has not taken money for the film. Anurag later met her and pacified her. Also offered her a role in one his other productions which she refused.

The film has gone way over budget, too. There were some portions which Ranbir Kapoor thought should be re-shot but they only had to manage with patch work because the cost has already crossed Rs130crore.

The VFX of the film is coming out to be very expensive.

It will be interesting to see how Anurag keeps Raveena's role and manages to finish the entire film within the budget. There were reports that Anurag had asked for some additional budget for the patch work of the film but the studio is very skeptical about the film recovering the cost and refused.
