So what’s the real reason for Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer being postponed from Christmas this year to next year?
Even as reports suggest that it is to ensure the film's collection is not affected by Shah Rukh Khan-Rohit Shetty’s untitled film and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Bajirao Mastani’ starring Ranveer Singh and Depeika Padukone – both set for the year-end - sources close to Ranbir Kapoor say that there are other reasons for the postponement.
Reason No 1: It is an unwritten rule that Ranbir Kapoor will not want to rub his mentor the wrong way. Ranbir was also an assistant to Sanjay Leela Bhansali along with Sonam Kapoor before ‘Saawariya’ happened. Ranbir will do no wrong and won’t take on Bhansali's film.
Reason No 2: Deepika Padukone is the heroine of his film ‘Tamasha’ too and hence she will be caught in between promotion for two films and will be troubled a lot.
Reason no 3: And this is the most important one. Ranbir Kapoor feels that there will be an overdose of him this year. In 2013, he had two releases – ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwani’, which did a staggering Rs190 crore at the box office and then there was the flop ‘Besharam’. He had no releases in 2014 though he did cameos in two films ‘Bhootnath Returns’ and the super-duper hit ‘PK’.
But then this year, he will Anurag Kashyap's film ‘Bombay Velvet’, co-starring Anushka Sharma, which was pushed behind to avoid clashing with ‘PK’. The film has had too many postponements for it to be pushed behind to next year. ‘And ‘Roy’ has hit the screens already.
Ranbir has also turned producer with the film ‘Jagga Jasoos’ with Anurag Basu doing the honours and Katrina Kaif, playing his heroine.
Ranbir has been waiting too long to turn producer and hence he does not want to push the release of this film as well.
And after having three releases, he will not have an option but to push the fourth film behind. And that means ‘Tamasha’ will only release in 2016 and Imtiaz Ali will need to wait!
