Bollywood drama 'Udta Punjab' is all set to release in the UAE on Thursday.

There were concerns over whether the movie, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, would be showcased in the UAE, after a censorship row erupted in India over the last few days.

In an e-mail to Emirates24|7, UAE movie showcaser Novo Cinemas confirmed they got the green signal. "We are pleased to inform you that 'Udta Punjab' will release this Thursday, June 16."

Around 5pm (on Tuesday) movie showcaser Vox Cinemas also shared the news. "The release of 'Udta Punjab' at Vox has just been confirmed."

National Media Council has earlier told Emirates24|7 on Monday that a decision was under review.

"We are yet to give it a No-Objection Certificate," said Juma Obaid Al Leem, director of the Media content tracking department at the NMC.

'Udta Punjab', starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor, was locked in controversy after the Indian censor board suggested over 80 cuts in the movie, suggesting it was politically motivated.

The film's producer Anurag Kashyap, and many biggies in Bollywood, rallied against that decision and approached the Indian courts, which has finally approved the release of the movie, with "one cut".
