Simon Cowell has told of how he was booted out of a network TV executive’s office when he first presented the idea of “American Idol”.

The entertainment impresario, who was already a big cheese in the United Kingdom, was relatively unknown in the United States at the time.

He says he left the US with "my tail between my legs" after a meeting with a TV boss that "was so bad that one minute into the pitch, the guy said, 'No'," Cowell told Oprah Winfrey as part of an upcoming series, “Master Class”, for her Own Network, perezhilton.com reported.

Cowell joked, "So, it sounds like you're interested?" right before the exec told to him, "Get out."

Since Cowell hadn’t booked a car to pick him up, he was left sitting on the steps of the building. He remembered thinking: ‘The good news is, it will never get worse than this,” he said.

We’re wondering if that network executive was booted out of his own job since.
