UAE's telecom operator Du has announced a new recharge option where any recharge will come with a social media package.
The offer is currently valid only for prepaid customers.
Customers can get up to 60 days of free social Internet when they recharge for Dh100 worth of talk time.
A recharge of Dh50 to Dh99 will give a user free social Internet for 30 days, a recharge of Dh20 for 10 days and Dh10 for three days and Dh5 for 1 day.
The validity of the talk time will only last until the validity of social package. “We will currently limit it to prepaid users. We are also planning to expand the offer,” said Fahad Al Hassam, Chief Commercial Officer, Du.
Du also said that its packages mean that a user will be able to call local mobile and landline numbers for as low as 0.6 fils per second, and call international numbers across 190 countries for 4 fils per second.
Hassam also said that users will have to subscribe to the social package by following some steps.
The social service will give a user access to Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Commenting on the increasing use of data he said: “Currently about 30 per cent of our revenue comes from data. We see this going up further,” he said.
When asked about Skype and Viber and VoIP services being introduced by social messaging services, he said “the VoIP services are governed by the local law.”
