Eight facilities shut on food safety violations

Eight meat production facilities in Abu Dhabi have been ordered shut by Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) for repeated violation of safety rules.

ADFCA carried out 23,463 site inspections last year, wherein officials issud 1,006 warnings. According to the authority's statistics, of the 332 facilities in the emirate, 138 sell fish and 17 sell poultry.

About 60 per cent of workers in the field were given training to enhance safety standards and raise their awareness.

Inspctors check for quality of meat, fish and poultry and ensure if the products are suitable for human consumption.
