Makkah diners will see their food being cooked

Customers at restaurants in Makkah, Islam’s holiest shrine, will be able to see cooks while they prepare food through monitor screens to be installed indoors, the Saudi Arabic language daily reported Thursday.

The Town Council has asked all restaurants in the city to install screens that will enable customers and municipal inspectors to directly monitor the kitchen to ensure cooks and other staff adhere to hygienic rules, it said.

“This move is designed to allow customers and inspectors to monitor operations inside the kitchen to prevent any violations of health rules,” it said.

“Offenders will be warned once…if the offence is repeated the restaurant will be shut.”
