Mubadala Healthcare, a business unit of Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala), said on Monday it is planning to expand its Wooridul Spine Centre project with an outpatient facility in Dubai, opening early this year.

The new Centre represents an extension of the relationship with south Korean spine care specialists, Wooridul, who will manage and operate this outpatient facility in addition to their flagship facility, which is scheduled to open in Abu Dhabi in 2012, it said in a statement.

“ The flagship Abu Dhabi centre will offer a comprehensive range of both inpatient and outpatient treatments.”

Guided by Wooridul’s minimally-invasive treatment approach, Wooridul Spine Centre will provide patients with a complete spectrum of spine care solutions – from diagnostics and pain management through to advanced surgical techniques, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, it said.

The statement said Wooridul’s acclaimed minimally-invasive surgery techniques utilizes an endoscopic laser to effectively treat spinal disc disorders and in doing so reduces surgical damage to muscle and tissue, minimizes scarring and significantly improves recovery times.

The project is a key initiative in Mubadala Healthcare’s strategy to address the region’s most pressing healthcare needs by working in partnership with respected international operators to establish world-class healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi and other parts of the UAE, the statement added.

The decision to establish a centre in Dubai is in response to the significant interest received from the Dubai and Northern Emirates
communities since Mubadala Healthcare first announced its partnership with Wooridul.

The development of facilities in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi will ensure that patients from all across the country will benefit from convenient local access to the highest international standards in spinal care.

Suhail Al Ansari, Head of Mubadala Healthcare, said “We are pleased to expand our relationship with Wooridul Spine Hospital with the opening of Wooridul Spine Centre Dubai this year. Through our partnership with Wooridul to develop these facilities, we are working to address the incidence of chronic back and neck conditions in the UAE and to reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for specialized spinal treatment.”

“Back pain, whether due to minor injuries or severe degenerative conditions, is a common health problem in the UAE,” said Dr Chan-Shik Shim, Medical Director of the Wooridul Spine Centre. “We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring our services to the region.”

Wooridul Spine Centre will be clinically operated in partnership with the Wooridul Spine Hospital, located in Seoul, South Korea. The Centre will employ a dedicated team of highly-qualified medical staff appointed and trained by the Wooridul Spine Hospital.

The new Dubai facility will be located near Al Safa 2 on Sheikh Zayed Road, next to Noor Islamic Bank metro station. The Abu Dhabi facility is currently under development at Arzanah, the new-mixed use development adjacent to Zayed Sports City, and is scheduled to open in the Arzanah Medical Complex in 2012.
