Bill Gates remains the richest person in the world.

With $75 billion, Gates has topped Forbes' list of billionaires for the third year in a row. The Microsoft co-founder's net worth is down from $79.2 billion, but still at the peak of the magazine's 30th annual ranking. Gates has made the list for 17 of the last 22 years.

As a whole, 1,810 billionaires are on the list, which is down 16 people from last year. The average net worth of the billionaires on the list is $3.58 billion, having dropped $280 million from $3.86 billion in 2015. The total net worth for this year's billionaires was $6.48 trillion.

The list added 198 billionaires this year, which again was down from last year, when 290 individuals were added.

Behind Gates is Amancio Ortega, known for his Zara fashion chain, at $67 billion; Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett at $60.8 billion; Telecom's Carlos Slim Helu at $50 billion; Jeff Bezos, who netted $45.2 billion thanks to Amazon; Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, who saw the greatest growth on the list, landing in sixth with $44.6 billion; Oracle's Larry Ellison with $43.6 billion; Michael Bloomberg in eighth with $40 billion; and Koch brothers Charles and David tied for ninth with $39.6 billion.

Donald Trump may be the Republican frontrunner for the White House, but he is slipping behind in the world billionaires race, Forbes magazine's new list of the planet's richest people shows.

Trump, who has made his enormous wealth a key selling point in his presidential bid, came in 324th in the magazine's 2016 ranking of the world's billionaires, which was published Tuesday.

That means that more than 200 billionaires have jumped ahead of the ever competitive real estate mogul since 2015 when he placed 121st on the annual list.

The magazine put Trump's net worth at an above average $4.5 billion, the same as last year but about half the $10 billion fortune candidate Trump often claims to have amassed.

The youngest billionaire was 19-year-old Danish heiress Alexandra Andresen. Her 20-year-old sister Katharina is the second youngest on the list.

In all, 66 billionaires are under 40 years of age. The richest of the 190 women on the list was Liliane Bettencourt of France who was ranked 11th with $36.1 billion, down from $40.1 billion last year.

The United States is still the country with the most billionaires (540), followed by mainland China (251) and Germany (120).

Russia has 77 billionaires, Hong Kong 69, and Brazil 23, down from 31 last year.

China had the most with 70 newcomers, and there were 33 from the U.S., 28 from Germany and eight from India.
