Love in Dubai: 5 unique ways to celebrate Valentine's Day tonight

By Bindu Rai

As the day of romance puts pressure on to plan that perfect night out, don't fret if the ideas have all but dried up to impress your Valentine.

Emirates 24|7 puts on its thinking cap for these five out-of-the-box Valentine Day celebratory ideas to indulge in tonight:

Vintage film night

Nothing compares to a good ol’ fashioned romance with Hollywood greats of yore showing us how it’s really done.

If this sounds exactly the kind of Valentine’s Day you fancy, then grab your partner and head down to The Courtyard Playhouse in Al Quoz to catch their Vintage Film Night.

At 7pm, folks will screen the breezy 'Roman Holiday', starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

The 1953 romcom sees Hepburn play a European princess, who, overwhelmed by her suffocating schedule, takes off for a night while in Rome.

When a sedative she took from her doctor kicks in, however, she falls asleep on a park bench and is found by an American reporter, Joe Bradley (Peck), who takes her back to his apartment for safety.

At work the next morning, Joe finds out Ann's regal identity and bets his editor he can get exclusive interview with her, but romance soon gets in the way.

Later, at 9.30pm, Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr have 'An Affair to Remember', when a cruise-based romance brings them together, despite being engaged to other people.

Both agree to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building in six months, however, an unfortunate accident keeps one from the reunion. Can they find their way to each other again?

Entrance for each screening is Dh100, inclusive of a welcome drink and free popcorn.

Paint your love

Whether you join as a couple or with your friends, Iris Dubai’s paint night is a fun and different way to relax and enjoy Valentine tonight.

The concept is simple; each person receives an outlined canvas and paint to create their own masterpiece while a friendly instructor shares tips and tricks on how to achieve beautiful results.

For Dh369 per person, the night will include two glasses of grape or non-alcoholic beverages, as well as the masterpiece you get to take home.

If you are not feeling artsy, join us anyway for a fun night out and the town’s best live music with Iris’ live band performance.

To end it all on a sweet note, Iris Dubai will gift guests with Valentines cupcakes to celebrate and say thanks on this special day for all the love!

From 7:30pm-10:30pm.

Russian comedy show

If you want to think out of the box a little and indulge in a laugh-out-loud Valentine date, then why not take in a Russian comedy show at Music Hall, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray from 8pm.

Three Russian teams – champions of the Premier League – audience favorite 'Parapaparam', 'Union' and 'Triod and Diod' are going to perform.

Moscow team 'Parapaparam', founded in 2003 by the talented students of the Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs, became a champion of the Moscow League, Premier League of KVN and Major League several times in the past.

The team captain Ivan Abramov’s parodies of the famous TV presenters, politicians and actors are unique. His artistic impression and absolute fitting into image amaze.

'Union' from Tyumen city poses as singing in a funny 'karapul' style. In the team’s arsenal there are lots of witty political jokes. They sparked furor at the Music festival Yurmala 2012 and won one of the biggest prices “Big KiVin in light-toned”.

'Triod and Diod' from Smolensk city has been a Premier League Team since 2009 and Major League Team since 2008.

Tickets start at Dh150

Salsa under the stars

Make this Valentine's an evening to remember and kick up a salsa storm amongst the soaring skyscrapers in Dubai.

At Dh600 per couple, including a three-course dinner, drinks and a salsa experience at Level 43 Sky Lounge, you can have a fun night out by putting that best foot forward at this Four Points Sheraton venue.

Valentine for pets

Who says humans get to have all the fun?

This year, your favourite four-legged pooch can indulge in a bit of romance of its own at a special Valentine's Brunch.

ABVC Kennels and Cattery are inviting all dogs and their owners to join in on this romantic day and they will be treated to a lunch on February 14th from 10am till 3pm.

The hosts will create a romantic and loving atmosphere for a special lunch for all.
