The government is floating a plan to unify the coming academic year (2011-2012) for schools and universities in the UAE.
The plan aims to ensure psychological, social and family stability in the society and to streamline academic vacations so that all members of the family can benefit from the unified recess.
The announcement came at a press conference addressed by Acting Undersecretary of the Education Ministry Ali Meihad Al Suwaidi, UAE University Vice Chancellor Dr Abdullah Al Khanbashi, Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology Dr Tayeb Al Kamali and other officials.
In a statement made on this occasion, Education Minister Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami said that that unification of the beginning of academic year for schools and universities comes in line with the directives of the country's prudent leadership, who are keen to guarantee all means for social cohesion and psychological stability. The decision also implements a cabinet resolution for the standardisation of academic days and vacations between the schools and universities.
According to the decision, the new academic year (2011-2012) will commence on 4th September.
