Mohamed bin Zayed briefed on achievements at Al Shahaniya, Al Wathba Camel Racing Festivals

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has reviewed the achievements of the Presidential Camel Racing Team at Al Shahaniya Festival in Qatar and Al Wathba Festival 2017.

This came when His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received on Monday at Al Bahr Palace Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, President of the Camel Racing Association, Head of the Racing Centre, and the Presidential Camel Racing Team. The supervising team of presidency camels and winners of the two festivals held in March, were present.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed congratulated the presidency team for its continuing achievements and for winning prizes, citing their qualitative addition to camel racing of the purebred Arab camels. He stressed that these heritage races have a historical and social dimension among the people of the region as they represent the cultural heritage inherited from the parents and grandparents to keep it alive.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi underlined that the support of the UAE and its wise leadership to camel racing comes from it being an authentic Arab sport and a part of ancient folklore.

He noted that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was keen to promote this traditional sports as he had encouraged camel owners to revive and sustain the camel racing.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also said that President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan supports the camel racing to spread nationwide.

Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan said the directives of the UAE President and support of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to organise the purebred Arab camels' races "have consolidated this sports among the youth."

Among others present were H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Ain region; H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan; Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Executive Council Member, and a number of senior officials.
