17 New Year births in Abu Dhabi

Seventeen new babies hit the New Year target in Abu Dhabi when they popped out to life on the first day while twin girls were not as lucky as they missed the target by only 10 minutes, according to hospital records.

The boys and girls were born within hours of each others to national and expatriate families at hospitals in the city of one million people.

All the 17 now have an exciting birthday on 1/1/2011 while the twins, born to a Yemeni family, are registered for 31/12/2010 as they pushed their way out to life only 10 minutes before the end of the year, Albayan newspaper said.

Citing medical records, it said 11 babies, including five boys and six girls, were born at Mafraq Hospital while the rest were born at other hospitals.

The first baby to see 2011 was a girl born at 12.05 a.m to a Mauritanian family while the second was also a girl born at 12.15 a.m to a British mother and Spanish father, who called her Nadia.
