The UAE's top court overturned an acquittal sentence and ordered the retrial of an employer who did not inform police about his absconding worker.
The unnamed employer said he notified the Labour ministry about his worker, but the prosecutor found that the procedure is not enough as the law stipulates that he must also inform the police or immigration authorities about the absconding person.
A Court of First Instance acquitted the employer, prompting the prosecutor to appeal, but the sentence was upheld by the Court of Appeals.
The prosecutor then appealed with the Federal Supreme Court, which overturned the sentence and ordered a retrial of the employer on charges of violating labour rules.
