The Kingdom of Bahrain has halted all flights to and from Iran a day after it joined Saudi Arabia in severing diplomatic ties with Tehran.

The Civil Aviation Affairs Department of Bahrain's Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry announced the move Tuesday in a statement carried by the official Bahrain News Agency.

The department said its national carrier would take steps to minimise any inconvenience for travelers who have prior reservations.

US condemns attacks on Saudi missions in Iran

The United States has condemned the attacks on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and its Consulate in the city of Mashhad.

John Kirby, spokesman for the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a press statement last night that the US condemns the attacks on Saudi Arabia's diplomatic missions in Iran and takes attacks on diplomatic headquarters seriously.

Kirby added that his country is following reports on the arrest of some of the perpetrators of these attacks, pointing out that the United States urges the Iranian government to fully respect its international obligations to protect the headquarters of diplomatic missions.
