Crash on Sheikh Zayed Road causes morning gridlock

A two car accident on Sheikh Zayed Road is affecting north-bound traffic, heading into Sharjah, on the morning commute.

Emergency vehicles are currently on the scene, but tailbacks on both sides of the highway is being reported around 7am.

An eyewitness to the crash told Emirates 24|7: "The accident appeared very serious, with one vehicle flipped on its side in the extreme left lane, ‎while the second car seemed to have lost control and crossed five lanes of traffic, to crash into the central meridian.

"When I arrived on the scene around 6.45am, emergency crew were attempting to pull someone out of the car."

Commuters heading down Financial Centre Road to merge onto Sharjah-bound Sheikh Zayed Road will find the exit facing gridlock due to the crash.

Alternative routes can be taken via Al Khail Road.
