SRI LANKA: Ududumbura police, on a tip-off, discovered an 87-year-old woman confined to an unprotected waxen cage at Udatenna area in Kandy on Monday (15), said police media spokesman ASP
Ruwan Gunasekara, Lanka Hot News reported.
Her 51-year-old daughter had confined the old mother to a cage covered by wax cloth in the ground floor of her newly constructed flat, police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the old woman had been undressed but only covered with a piece of cloth without proper attention and no meals had been given to her for days.
Police said that she had been suffering with hives and the old woman had quickly swallowed the buns given by them.
She had been admitted to the Kandy General Hospital for treatment and the daughter, who had been arrested, was due to be produced before Theldeniya magistrate court.
Ududumbara police are investigating.
