Dubai inspection busts company for Dh50 per day 'illegal' staff

The Ministry of Labour and the Department of Naturalisation and Residency in Dubai have turned over the manager of a company in a case of illegal labour practice to Dubai Police.

Isa Al Zarouni, Director, Ministry of Labour, Inspection, in Dubai explained that during an inspection campaign carried out by inspectors workers of the company in question were asked to show their papers.

They confessed they did not have any, entered the country illegally and went to work at the facility for a salary of Dh50 a day.

The manager of the firm justified the operation saying that the holding company had many businesses and additional labour was needed to finish the jobs.

Maher Al Obed, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs, said: "The prosecution of the offenders, including the manager of the establishment, came after a periodic inspection campaign recently organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour.”

The amount of fines involved in the case total to Dh1.5 million.
