Dubai traffic accidents: 123 dead in 2011

Traffic accidents killed 123 people in Dubai this year compared to 152 last year, a drop of about 19 per cent.

The number of deaths in accidents in 2009 and 2008 in the emirate was 225 and 297 respectively.

Dubai Traffic Police statistics show that traffic accidents in June, August and October 2011 claimed 14 lives each. February, March and April saw 12 deaths each, followed by May (11), January, September and November (nine each), July (four) and December (three).

The figure for December is only up to the 5th of the month.

The traffic police aims to achieve zero death per 100,000 of the population by the year 2020.
