Ten people died in 126 motorbike accidents in Dubai last year, according to the latest statistics of the General Directorate of Traffic, Dubai Police, reported Al Bayan newspaper.

At least 142 people were injured; 22 of them seriously, while 56 sustained medium injuries and 54 were treated for simple injuries.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police, some of the accidents are critical. In certain cases, motorists lose their legs and hands, he added.

He added that there was a proposal for a dedicated lane for motorcycles.

Maj. Gen Al Zafin said injury and death is 30 times more from motorcycles accidents than from car accidents.

Delivery men and youngsters are most prone to such accidents. While, the former are bound by deadline and hence speed on the roads, the latter often use quad bikes dangerously in roads.
