10 men held for stealing cables from worksite

Ten Pakistanis assaulted and detained a guard at a construction site and stole electricity cables worth Dh28, 000, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

According the accusation sheet, the accused identified as GAB, 26, worker, RAM, 31, driver, SHZ, 25, driver, GAM, 31, painter, HJB, 40, worker, NIM, 23, worker, MHM, 25, jobless, MRR, 21, worker, MAM, 36, jobless, MNM, 28, mechanic, stole electricity cables from a construction site of Al Naboodah. They assaulted the guard Feroz Khan... tied his hands with rob… covered his eyes with his shirt and detained him in a room on September 24.

NAA, 36, worker, is accused of buying the stolen cables despite knowing that they were stolen from a construction site.

Khan, 34, testified that at around 2.30am he went out of his room to the site to check noises he had heard.

“I took a lamp and went out of the room… All of a sudden I got punch in my back so I fell on the ground… trying to get up someone hit on my shoulder and belly. The assaulters tied my hands with a plastic rob and carried me to a room. They took the room’s key… I heard a car coming to the site and after 30 minutes they had left… I managed to cut the nylon rob with my teeth,” he testified.

Policeman Saeed Obaid testified that police investigated the crime and reached the accused who have criminal records of similar thefts in the different emirates.

GAB was taken to Al Muteena area where he was arrested. He admitted committing the theft and leading his accomplices in robbery.
