With a growing student population in the emirate, the Dubai education authority has announced the opening of 11 new schools for the 2014-15 academic year.
Of the 11, eight will follow the UK curriculum, two of which will be combined with IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum.
Two will follow Indian curriculum and one, the Canadian system.
When Emirates 24|7 contacted the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in May, the total number of new schools stood at 8, now, three more have been added to that list.
The 11 schools are Credence High School, Bilva Indian School, Gems First Point - The Villa, Kings Nad Al Sheba, Kings Al Barsha, Ontario International Canadian School, Nord Anglia, International School, Gems Metropole, Safa Community School, Dovecote Green Primary and Capital School.
According to the stats provided by the KHDA, the total number of private schools in Dubai will be 169, and “over 243,700 students have enrolled in private schools for the 2014/15 academic year”.
The new schools have provided 23,000 student places.
“In line with Dubai’s rapid growth and demand for high-quality education, there will be 360,000 school seats available by the year 2020,” said Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director-General KHDA.
“Over the next five years, KHDA, schools, parents and students will work together to support the education goals of the UAE’s national agenda and the initiatives of Expo 2020.”
In addition, KHDA has successfully introduced parent-school contracts to improve relationships, awareness and communication between schools, students and parents. Now in its second phase, the contracts have been introduced in 24 schools for 38,000 students. The contract is said to the first “reference guide for solving any misunderstandings”
