Abu Dhabi authorities have seized nearly 14 kg of bad food at school canteens during raids intended to protect public health at the emirate’s educational institutions, newspapers reported on Monday.
The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority said its inspectors seized around eight kg of food found to be unfit for human consumption on the first day of their raids this week while six kg of bad food were confiscated on the next day.
In a statement published in local newspapers, the Authority said its inspectors raided 89 schools and colleges in the emirate and fined 10 canteens. It said 29 canteens and coffee shops were warned.
“These punitive measures were taken against those who did not abide by rules concerning food safety and the types of food they are authorized to sell.”
