15 injured as bus hits stray camel in UAQ

Some 15 Asian passengers were injured after their bus crashed into a stray camel on Sheikh Zayed Road in Al Abraq area of Umm Al Quwain, according to Al Bayan newspaper.

Lt Colonel Khamis Salem Buharoon, director of the police stations department of Umm Al Quwain, said the injuries ranged between simple, medium and severe in one case which was admitted to the hospital.

He said the accident took place on Sunday. The operation room received information there was an incident of a minibus collision with a stray (camel) on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Ittihad roundabout.

He said the cause of the accident was negligence and lack of attention from driver of the bus.

The rescue team of civil defence rushed to the scene. One of the passengers was stuck inside the vehicle. Rescuers used electric shears to remove the passenger.
