25 women candidates for FNC in two days

A total of 25 women and 155 men candidates have registered in the past two days to run for the coming Federal National Council elections which is scheduled to take place on the 3rd of October.

Women made 16 per cent of the candidates who have registered in the past two days, of whom one candidate was of special needs, and challenged here disability and came forward to register.

According to the initial figures collected on the first two days of registration, which were Sunday and Monday of this week, the emirate of Abu Dhabi had the highest numbers of candidates registered with a total of 46 candidates, of which 38 were men and eight were women.

Sharjah was the second highest with a total of 30 candidates, of which 26 are men and four are women.  Ras Al Khaimah was the third highest with 20 candidates, of which 17 were men and three were women.

Dubai came on the fourth place with a total of 18 candidates, of which 11 were men and seven were women. Fujairah was on the fifth place with 17 men candidate and no women. Ajman was on the sixth place with a total of 14 candidates of which 12 were men and two were women.

Finally, Um Al Quwian was on the seventh place with 10 candidate, of which nine were men and only one woman.

In general, most of the candidates expressed their satisfaction with the registration centers in the UAE, and said that it was functioning in a smooth way and all the processes were easy and quick.

First handicapped woman candidate

Aisha Al Za’aabi, is the first woman candidate with special needs from Abu Dhabi who registered yesterday to run for the FNC elections.

Speaking to the media, Aisha who is in charge of customer services in Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, and mother of four children said that she got full support of her family to participate in the FNC elections.

She stressed that through her participation in the elections, she wants to pass a message to the society that those with special needs are equal to the healthy people, and they can play a major role in the development of this country.

She also pointed out that she takes Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation Chairwoman of General Women’s Union, as her role model, and aims to fulfil all her dreams.
