A 26-level residential tower in Ras Al Khaimah was evacuated on Saturday after fire erupted at a nearby waste site and sent heavy smoke through the building.

Civil defence units rushed to the tower in Al Qawassim Corniche neighborhood and organised the evacuation process as a precautionary measure.

Police said no one was hurt in the accident and that the cause of the fire at the waste site has yet to be known.

The Dubai-based 'Emarat Al Youm' daily said the residents of the tower were evacuated through the building stairs just after 5.00 pm and that the process was smooth and organized despite the heavy smoke that filled the building’s corridors.
