Two men and a woman were rescued from drowning in two separate incidents off the beach the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.

Major Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi, head of Dubai Police’s Maritime Rescue Department, said in the first incident, a youth and his girlfriend - both Asian nationals - were hit by a big wave which moved them deeper into the sea.

Major Al Naqbi said the friends had gone to the beach to swim and enjoy the weather. While they were swimming, a tide drew them deeper into the sea and they were too exhausted to swim back to shore.

A rescue team, from The Dubai Maritime Rescue Department, rushed to the site and plunged into heavy seas to pull the friends ashore. After giving first aid, both were taken to hospital.

In the second incident, Major Al Naqbi said a man was save from drowning in the same area. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Al Naqbi urged beachgoers not to venture more than 300 to 500 metres into the sea to avoid exposure to strong waves and currents.

He urged pubic to call police operations room on number 999 in emergencies.

Major Al Naqbi called on beach goers to be cautious while swimming, particularly during high tide. They should respond to the ‘red flag’ signal and hinder from swimming as soon as they see it.
