Three Malaysian suspects were arrested for using 61 fake credit cards to buy expensive items worth Dh141,000 in a few hours after their arrival in the UAE.
TS, 29, and TW, 39, confessed to have used 37 forged credit cards after they had agreed to share the value of the stolen goods with a third person in their homeland.
They confessed to buying forged cards outside the UAE for Dh900 each.
Colonel Dr Rashid Bu Rasheed, Head Abu Dhabi's Organised Crime Section, said the suspects were arrested from a hotel following quick alerts from shopkeepers.
The invoices showed that the suspects used the cards to buy expensive mobiles, watches, jewellery, book hotel rooms, buy airline tickets and other personal items.
In a separate case, YB, 25 are arrested in Abu Dhabi for using 24 credit cards to shop. He was arrested while trying to buy a watch worth Dh40,000 from a jewellery shop. The shopkeeper suspected him when then card he used was not authorsied.
He confessed to the crime and said he did so to pay back debt ccumulated from gambling. He intended to immidiately return to Malaysia after shopping.
The unauthorised credit card invoices of the three suspects stood at Dh1,668,212.
