33-storey building fire in Downtown Dubai put out

A major fire was reported in Downtown Dubai on Saturday afternoon.

Dubai Police stated: "A tower under construction near the Address Hotel Downtown caught fire."
Dubai Police announced fire at 2.15pm and said there were no injuries reported.

The Department of Civil Defence rushed to the scene and was able to extinguish it before it spread to other floors, the force's spokesperson, Mohammed Hamed was quoted as saying in the local press.

While investigations have yet to commence, it seems that the fire occurred in the ducting within the 33-storey building, according to a Civil Defence source. "There was smoke throughout the whole building and we are still clearing this smoke. We are trying to find out where the fire started, this is still unclear."

22 workers have been evacuated from the building. There is no loss of lives in the fire which was caused by a short circuirt, Dubai Police said.
