48 died in Dubai road accidents in Q1 2013

48 people died and 593 people were injured in road accidents in Dubai in the first three months of this year.

Those who died included 23 drivers, 13 passengers and 12 children.

Out of the total of 724 road accidents during this period, 397 caused injuries to people while 327 did not result in injury to anyone.
The total included 101 run-over accidents in which 12 people died.
Nationals of Pakistan were involved in 88 road accidents which killed 11, followed by Indians in 79 accidents in which10 died and Emiratis in 77 accidents which caused the death of seven people.

Six accidents happened on Emirates Road, followed by five on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and two on Sheikh Rashid Road.

Sudden deviations caused 175 of the accidents, 144 because of insufficient distance between vehicles, 87 due to lack of concentration of drivers, 57 by not staying in the same lane, 55 by drunk driving, 54 by entering road without making sure it is free of vehicles, 46 by jumping red signals, 34 because of careless reversing,  20 because of inattention, 16 because of speeding and nine accidents because of reckless driving.

Those who died in road accidents belonged to the following age groups: 18 between 18-25 year, 13 between 27-35, 15 between 36-56, three between 1-8 years, two between 9-17 and one 63 years old.
