A 49-year-old Emirati mother, identified as Umm Rashid is one of those who can face a threat without fear or panic.

Umm Rashid put out not one, but three fires in her home and didn’t resort to calling in the Civil Defence until she had all but extinguished them, Arabic newspaper ‘Al Bayan’ reported.

Sharing her experience, Umm Rashid, who lives in Ajman, says the first fire broke out in her oven.

She says: “When I saw the flames I didn’t panic and acted with calm. I got a wet towel with water and covered the oven before the fire spread around the kitchen.

In the second incident, she saved her daughter whose scarf had caught fire while she was cooking in the kitchen.

“I immediately removed my daughter’s scarf and asked her not to panic and not to run, as more oxygen would help the fire spread to all parts of her body,” she says.

Umm Rashid shares that the third fire broke out in the villa’s water pump and she immediately shut down the electrical mains to extinguish the fire.

The General Directorate of Ajman Civil Defence honoured Umm Rashid in recognition of her courage.

Colonel Nasser Rashid Al Zeri, Director of the Media and Public Relations at Ajman Civil Defence praised Umm Rashid’s responsible behaviour, which had helped save lives and property.
