A total of 516 vehicles are lying unclaimed after being impounded in the Bani Yas area according to Abu Dhabi Municipality, Arabic newspaper Al Khaleej reported.

The municipality has called on owners to contact the relevant department in the main building of the municipality, located on Al Salam Street, to reach a settlement.
The cost of reclaiming a car can be as high as Dh2,000.

Of the 516 vehicles, about 53 vehicles are lying there for over a year.

The municipality also warned that if owners did not come forward, action against them would be taken.

Car owners have been warned against leaving vehicles in public areas or in front of gates.

The process of impounding is such that a notice is placed on an offending car requesting that it be removed in 24 hours.

Violators are then given a 14-day notice period. The car is then impounded.
