Dubai Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai issued 58,276 fatwa last year.
Several thousands of verbal fatwas were issued through land line of the department and the toll free number during working hours. While those issued online was about 5,046.
Dr Hamad bin Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, Director-General of the Department, said:
"The department strives to play a leading role in educating society about the correct religious practises."
He said the IACAD receives hundreds of questions daily from public on various issues comprising legal, social, personal, economic and commercial.
Dr Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Haddad, Director of Iftaa' Department of IACAD, said the department responds to questions in Arabic, English, Farsi, French, Urdu and Pushto. There are muftis who are qualified specialists in the four Mazhab, whether mosques or majlis of people or penal institutions.
