Man sentenced to one month jail and 80 lashes for drink-driving by a lower court will now serve his sentence as the Fujairah Appellate Court upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance.
The accused was caught not only drink-driving but also driving in the opposite direction of the traffic, reported 'Khaleej Times'.
A police patrol spotted a car moving in the opposite direction of traffic. When they followed the vehicle and asked the driver to stop the car, the cops found the driver to e unstable. He was then sent to hospital to take breath-analyser test and blood alcohol content test.
The results confirmed he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The lower court ordered him to serve a month in jail and receive 80 lashes, which he contested at the appellate court, which in turn rejected his petition and upheld the lower court’s verdict.
