Abandoned vehicles to be impounded in Sharjah

Vehicles left unattended for a long time on the streets of Sharjah would be impounded, the city’s civic body chief has warned motorists.

The municipality has launched an inspection campaign that would look for cars either abandoned or unattended for days together and would be confiscated following a notification and a grace period, Khaleej Times reported.

The vehicles found parked in unauthorised areas, without registration numbers or abandoned by its owners for a long time would come under scanner, said Sultan Al Mualla, Director-General of the Sharjah Municipality.

Once impounded, the owners would have to pay a fine to get the cars released, he added.

Al Mualla urged the vehicle owners to follow the municipality’s regulations and make efforts to maintain their vehicles’ safety while they go on vacation outside the country.

He advised motorists to park their cars in the paid parking zones while on vacation for their safety. “The motorist should come and buy a parking card for the period during which he or she will be out of the country,” he said.
