Abu Dhabi authorities have told bakeries to wrap sold bread in paper before putting it in the traditional plastic bags as the emirate is pursuing a drive to cut use of plastic bags.
In a statement published in the local Arabic press, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority said all bakeries and small Tanour bread shops must abide by the new rules.
It said such rules had already been enforced in the oasis city of Al Ain within a drive to protect public health.
“The Authority will be watching all bakeries to ensure full compliance with these rules,” the statement said.
