Abu Dhabi school fees to be higher in 2015

Private school students in Abu Dhabi will have to pay higher fees during the 2014-2015 class year after the education council approved fee hikes for 39 schools.

But the council rejected requests for hikes by 43 schools and said its decision followed evaluation of each school seeking increase in its fees.

The council, which oversees all schools in the emirate, said those approved include 23 schools in Abu Dhabi city and 16 in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain, adding that no school in the western region had requested fee hike.

“We have conducted a thorough evaluation and studies of all applications for school fee increases to ensure they conform to required criteria and are committed to development and improvement plans,” the council said.

“This process is intended to upgrade teaching at schools by developing syllabuses, investing in human resources to improve the standards of teachers and spending on school building expansion, development and maintenance.”
