Accident on way to work in Dubai? Police to inform you

Next to an array of social media notifications letting a person know that somebody is tweeting, poking or messaging, smartphone users can now be notified of traffic accidents too.

It is one step ahead of the traffic accident update and two of the accident indicators on route planners or GPS systems, as this information will drop into a smartphone without the user asking for it.

"Would it not be nice to leave home in the morning aware of traffic accidents on your route," said an officer of Dubai Police at Gitex Technology Week, where the new feature was presented.

The traffic accident notification is part of the existing Dubai Police app and is hosted under three functions: smart accident notification, nearby accidents and alternative route.

"The smart accident notification alerts the driver when there is an accident on the road he is currently on.

"The distance within whichever it detects accidents can be anywhere between 0-100 km. The user can indicate on which distance he wants to be alerted," explained the officer.

In addition, accidents on nearby exits can also be detected. "The driver may want to know when there is an accident on an exit from the road he is driving on. He will get a notification of these accidents by enabling 'nearby accidents '.

Finally, alternative routes can be received through the same app.
