Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), is leading a delegation of the council on a one-week visit to the USA, to meet various public and private sector energy organisations.

The delegation will review the latest advancements in technologies in the energy sector and developments in renewable energy production.

The visit also focuses on strengthening relations between the two nations on a wide range of sectors that promote economic growth, particularly energy.

The delegation includes Ali bin Abdullah Al Owais, President of the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau, Abdul Nasser Kalban, General Manager of Power & Desalination Maintenance at Dubal, Saeed Khoory, CEO of Enoc, Waleed Salman, Chairman of the Dubai Carbon Center of Excellence; and Nejib Zaafrani, Secretary General and CEO of DSCE.

“During the visit we will discuss, with both public and private energy organizations, ways of working more closely together and look to meet with experts and decision-makers to share ideas on the latest technological innovations and best practices in energy production,” said Saeed Al Tayer.

The Vice Chairman underlined the need to promote initiatives that are aimed at building stronger relationships between DSCE and various energy sector entities.

“Such relationship-building will have a strong impact on economic outcomes that are in line with the sustainable development goals of the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.

“These partnerships also complement the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which focuses on an integrated approach to design standards, public infrastructure, finance, management and maintenance.”

The delegation will visit the US Department of Energy, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Silicon Oasis and selected government and private companies operating in the energy sector.

They will hold discussions on solar energy, nuclear energy and renewable sources.

The delegation aims to obtain a clear perspective of America’s experiences of both the development of shale gas and its impact on gas prices and also learn about the experiences there in the field of clean-coal technology.

DSCE is focusing on public-private partnerships as the means to promoting access to public assets, creating new job opportunities, attracting investments and learning about the latest innovations.

The Council is developing and establishing opportunities for investment by encouraging the private sector to engage in strategic projects based on the adoption of the latest technologies.

This, in turn, will contribute to meeting future energy needs in the Emirate of Dubai while safeguarding environmental factors as part of a solid energy infrastructure.

Earlier, Saeed Al Tayer and Nejib Zaafrani hosted Justin Siberell, Consul General to the United States of America.

The Vice Chairman received the suggested programme itinerary prepared by the US Department of Energy.

During the visit to the US, the delegation will also hold meetings with the World Energy Forum team in New York to discuss preparations for the Forum meeting, to be held for the first time outside the US, in the Emirate of Dubai from 22nd to 24th October 2012, at the Dubai International Convention Centre, under the theme, ‘A Forum for World Leaders’ to promote clean and sustainable energy for all.

The World Energy Forum 2012 aims to create a platform to promote sustainable energy as well as engage in global discussions on energy issues and sustainable development. The forum will assist in establishing an energy-efficient road map to benefit nations around the world.
