An Emirati female official in charge of anti-smoking programmes at the health ministry has been selected as “person of the month” by Emarat Al Youm Arabic language daily, which introduced the award at the start of 2012.
Dr Dawood Al Maidoor was picked for the award for her role in combating smoking in the UAE through a series of laws intended to curtail consumption and protect the public from the smoking hazards, the paper said.
“Emarat Al Youm’s editing council unanimously selected Dr Maidoor for her great role in fighting smoking hazards in the country and her continuous work for more than six years to issue the necessary regulations in this respect. Her efforts have helped cut the number of smokers and smoking victims,” said Editor-in-Chief Sami Al Riami.
Dubai-based Emarat Al Youm, one of the most popular Arabic language dailies in the region, launched the “person of the month” award at the beginning of 2012 to honour outstanding people for their role in the society, the first prize of its kind in the country.
Emarat Al Youm, one of the most popular Arabic language dailies in the region, is part of DMI which also includes Emirates 24|7, the Arabic language Al Bayan newspapers, Dubai TV and other publications.
