Boat rescue operation off RAK coast

no casualties reported (supplied)

Maritime rescue team of Ras Al Khaimah Police retrieved the fishing boat that sank off Al Qawasim Corniche on Tuesday.

The boat drifted into the sea due to strong currents.

Captain Yaqub Al Mansouri, Director, Maritime Rescue Branch, Ras Al Khaimah Police, said some workers and fishermen tried their best to pull the boat out but failed due to its weight.

Rescue teams, including an ambulance, rushed to the site no sooner than the Central Operations Room of RAK Police received information about the incident, he said.

The boat has been handed over to its owner. No casualties have been reported.

Capt. Mansouri urged boat owners not to leave boats adjacent to the coast as there is a danger of them drifting into sea.

Marine Rescue Branch of Ras Al Khaimah has developed a special programme to monitor beaches of the emirate to ensure due compliance with safety regulations, he said.
