Boy dies after marble piece falls on him

A 5-year-old Asian boy died after a piece of marble table-top fell on his head, reported ‘Al Bayan’.

The child was at a hotel in Dubai on Friday to attend a party when he went playing away from his parents, said Colonel Yusuf Al Odaidi, Director, Al Barsha Police Station,

The child suffered serious injuries when a large piece of marble used as a table top fell on his head. Ambulance reached the site immediately, but the child died on the way to hospital, Col. Odaidi said.

Investigations and interrogation of those present at the hotel during the incident revealed there was no criminal intent behind the accident. Col. Al Odaidi said, police also studied camera footages to check how the incident unfolded.

Col. Al Odaidi denied allegations by some family members that the incident happened at a religious place. The family was out with friends at a party held by a company for its employees.

The child’s father refused an autopsy to be done and have requested officials to receive the body as quickly as possible, he said. The child’s mother is inconsolable.  

Col. Al Odaidi said that the department is in touch with the family and is assisting them in completing the legal formalities.

The child was a student of a private school in Dubai. The school has also sent a condolences to the family. Col. Al Odaidi said the email, however, comprised false information about the manner of the death and the location of the incident.

Col. Al Odaidi has urged public to get information only from reliable sources and to ensure the truth before publishing any information.
